The old city part of Jaipur was established in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh. It is one of the oldest cites in India to be based on the grid iron road network. The main east west road was planned to be 111 feet wide, while the north south lanes were 55 feet wide. This has till date, defined the development in that area where even the smaller alleys are still distinctly visible.
