The cauvery river in in Tamil Nadu is the main source of fresh water for most of the southern districts. However during the dry season the river bed is exposed. This has let to sand being mined from the river bed and used for construction. Both legal and illegal mining of sand takes place. This is clearly seen in the images where water has filled up the cavities that were created by the excavators.
